Bangladesh vs Australia – 2nd ODI preview

Bangladesh host Australia in the second ODI at Shere Bangla National Stadium on Thursday, with the hosts targeting a maiden ODI series win against the Australians.

Match context

Bangladesh produced a complete performance in the first match, winning via the DLS method. Tanzid Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto provided the platform before Mosaddek Hossain took charge of the middle order in his first international appearance since 2022, finishing unbeaten on 86 and adding two wickets.

Nahid Rana then dismantled Australia’s middle and lower order with raw pace, touching 150kph on occasions to finish with four wickets. It was only Bangladesh’s second-ever ODI win against Australia, first since Cardiff in 2005.

How to bet on cricket

Australia’s bright spots were limited. Cameron Green’s half-century from number six was the standout with the bat, though questions remain about his batting position. Nathan Ellis was their most disciplined bowler, using early movement and slower balls effectively.

Australia’s fielding was woeful – Mosaddek was dropped three times – and Alex Carey has urged calm ahead of a quick turnaround. Australia are unlikely to make significant changes.

Pitch and conditions

Bangladesh felt they should have posted 320 rather than 284 in the first match, suggesting another batting-friendly surface is expected. Rain is forecast for Thursday in Dhaka, which could bring the DLS method back into play.

Betting angle

Bangladesh at 2.15 offers genuine value for the hosts targeting a first-ever series win. Nahid Rana at 5.40 for top bowler is the standout market – his 31 wickets in nine matches in 2026 make him the most prolific fast bowler of the year.

T20 vs ODI vs test betting – format-specific strategy

Most fours to Australia at 1.60 reflects their top-order aggression, while Najmul Hossain Shanto at 6.00 for top batsman is worth considering given his consistency at the top of the order on a surface that should again assist stroke play.
