Vitality T20 Blast: Tuesday preview

Three matches across two groups headline Tuesday’s Vitality Blast card before the competition takes a hiatus until late June.

Durham v Lancashire Lightning

Lancashire arrive needing a response after one win from five. Livingstone scored 81 off 37 and took 3-13 against Glamorgan on Sunday but the side may need to win seven remaining games to qualify.

Durham have won two from five and lost three in a row, most recently a seven-run defeat to Northants. Kasey Aldridge has taken eight wickets in five matches. Lancashire at 1.80 is fair value.

With both sides struggling for form, under 7.5 sixes at 1.95 aligns with conditions at a ground that has kept big-hitting in check.

How to bet on cricket

Northamptonshire v Worcestershire Rapids

Northants lead the Central and West group as the only unbeaten side in the competition, with five wins from five. Calvin Harrison leads the bowling with seven wickets at an economy of just over seven, including 4-17 against the Rapids.

Worcestershire are fourth after a last-ball defeat to Gloucestershire on Sunday. They travel without Isaac Mohammed, concussion, and Matthew Waite, nursing a knock. Northants at 1.50 reflects their dominant form, and most fours to Northants at 1.70 is backed by Chris Lynn and David Willey’s boundary-heavy approach at the top of the order.

Essex v Kent Spitfires

Essex have won three in a row. The most recent was a 60-run win over Middlesex, built on 133 between Charlie Allison (61 off 37) and Luc Benkenstein (67 off 56), with Noah Thain taking a career-best 3-11. Sam Cook is out with a wrist fracture.

Kent travel without Tom Rogers, hamstring injury, and Dian Forrester, on South Africa A duty until 10 June. Keith Dudgeon is the available overseas player and Jake Lintott provides left-arm spin on loan from Warwickshire. Kent at 1.80 is fair given their depth. Over 32.5 fours at 1.90 is worth considering given Chelmsford’s boundary-friendly surface and the attacking nature of both batting line-ups.

The takeaway

All three fixtures carry genuine uncertainty, but Northants’ unbeaten record is the most reliable foundation on a card that could easily produce upsets in the other two matches.
