It’s an East African affair at the Al Barid Stadium on Saturday when the Cranes of Uganda take on the Taifa Stars of Tanzania in the second round of AFCON 2025.
With both nations losing their opening games in Group C, this is a must win for either side if they are to keep their qualification hopes alive.
Uganda lost 3-1 to Tunisia, while their counterparts Tanzania were 2-1 losers to tournament favorites Nigeria. This is Uganda’s third appearance at the continental showpiece, notably going all the way to the final in 1978.
Tanzania on the other hand are still desperately waiting for their first ever AFCON victory, with this providing the best opportunity to do so. It’s desperate times for Argentine Miguel Angel Gamondi as his Tanzania side come into the game on five-match losing streak in all competitions.

Yakoub Suleiman and Allan Okello were notably absent for their AFCON 2025 opening game and are likely to come into the starting XI for the Cranes. Aside from that, no other changes are expected from Paul Put’s side.
The visitors will start Simon Msuva up front, hoping he can rediscover his goal-scoring form, which has seen Tanzania avoid defeat in the last 13 games he has found the back of the net.
