Five home team picks in hot midweek Serie A action

The Serie A is shaping up to be the most tightly contested of all Europe’s top leagues, with just five points separating the top six teams. Napoli remain atop the standings with 18 points after an impressive 3-1 home win over 20-time champions Inter over the weekend, level with Roma, who have an inferior goal difference. AC Milan are hot on their heels with 17 points, two more than city rivals Inter, ahead of an intense round of midweek fixtures.

There were 28 goals scored across Serie A over Game Week 8, and with several exciting headline fixtures lined up this week, fans can expect plenty of goalmouth action. Most home sides are tipped as favourites to win — here’s AfricaPicks’ look at five highlighted fixtures.

Atalanta vs AC Milan – Tuesday, 10:45 pm

Despite drawing their last four league matches, Atalanta are tipped to secure a first home win since beating Lecce 4-1 in September. They remain the only unbeaten side in Serie A after eight rounds. Marco Brescianini’s equaliser earned a 1-1 draw at Cremonese last time out, while Milan were held 2-2 by newly promoted Pisa.

The hosts completed the league double over Milan last season and look primed for another result. Pick: Atalanta win or draw (1.48). Also consider BTTS – Yes (1.65).

AS Roma vs Parma – Wednesday, 8:30 pm

Level on points with Napoli, Roma will look to make it back-to-back wins when they host struggling Parma. Gian Piero Gasperini’s side boasts the league’s best defence, conceding just three goals in eight matches, and comes off a crucial 1-0 win at Sassuolo, courtesy of Paulo Dybala.

Parma have failed to score in their last three outings and now face one of Serie A’s most disciplined backlines. Pick: Roma to win (1.50) — with a strong chance of a clean sheet.

Best bets for midweek SportPesa League frenzy

Como vs Hellas Verona – Wednesday, 8:30 pm

Cesc Fabregas’ Como continue to impress in their first full season under his leadership, sitting sixth with 13 points. Despite a goalless draw at Parma, Como remain unbeaten at home and should return to winning ways here. Hellas Verona, winless and stuck on five points, have struggled at both ends of the pitch.

Pick: Como to win (1.65) — the hosts should capitalise on home form to secure their fourth victory of the season.

Juventus vs Udinese – Wednesday, 8:30 pm

Juve slipped to an alarming third straight defeat with a 1-0 loss to Lazio, dropping to eighth in the table. They’ll be desperate to respond against an Udinese side unbeaten in three, following a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Lecce. The Bianconeri haven’t won since their thrilling 4-3 triumph over Inter in September — and this is the perfect chance to reset.

Pick: Juventus to win (1.48).

Inter Milan vs Fiorentina – Wednesday, 10:45 pm

Inter will aim to bounce back after their 3-1 defeat to Napoli when they host a struggling Fiorentina outfit sitting 18th and still winless. Inter remain the league’s top scorers, with 19 goals in eight games. Lautaro Martinez, Marcus Thuram, Hakan Calhanoglu and Ange Bonny have all chipped in with three goals apiece, giving the hosts attacking depth that should overwhelm the visitors.

Pick: Inter Milan to win (1.60).
