Six Nations Super Saturday – Final round scenarios explained

The 2026 Six Nations championship will be decided on the tournament’s traditional Super Saturday, with three matches played in succession and multiple teams still in the hunt for the title. France head into the final round in pole position, but both Ireland and Scotland remain mathematically alive depending on how the final day unfolds.

With bonus points and points difference still potentially decisive, every try and every conversion could influence the final standings.

Rugby betting guide for beginners

Ireland v Scotland

Kick-off: 16:10 SAST
Venue: Aviva Stadium, Dublin

Heading into the final round:

  • France – 16 points

  • Scotland – 16 points

  • Ireland – 14 points

Points difference is the first tiebreaker, and France currently have a big advantage there, meaning they generally win any tie on points unless something extreme happens.

France

France control their own destiny.

France win the title if:

  • They beat England with a bonus point

  • Even if Scotland beat Ireland, France would probably still finish first unless Scotland dramatically overturn the points-difference gap.

France could still win if they lose:

  • If France lose to England but pick up bonus points, and

  • Ireland do not win in Dublin (for example if Scotland win or the game is drawn).

In short: France simply need to match or better Scotland’s result to take the championship.

Scotland

Scotland’s path depends on what happens in France vs England.

Scotland win the title if:

  • They beat Ireland, and

  • France lose to England.

There is also a scenario where Scotland win even if France win:

  • If Scotland beat Ireland with a bonus point, and

  • France beat England but without a bonus point, Scotland can finish level on points and potentially edge it depending on bonus points and points difference.

However, because France have a strong points-difference advantage, Scotland ideally need France to slip up.

Ireland

Ireland have the toughest path because they start two points behind the leaders.

Ireland win the title if:

  • They beat Scotland, and

  • England beat France.

Ireland must also hope:

  • France do not collect enough bonus points, and

  • The points-difference gap does not come into play (Ireland trail France significantly).

In simple terms: Ireland need to win and rely on England beating France.

The simplest way to think about it

  • France: Win with a bonus point = champions.

  • Scotland: Win + France slip up = champions

  • Ireland: Win with a bonus point  + England beat France.

Because the France–England game is last, France will know exactly what result they need after the Ireland–Scotland match finishes.
