Dewald Brevis has become the most expensive signing in Betway SA20 history after the Pretoria Capitals secured the Proteas batter for R16.5 million in a fierce multi-team bidding contest.
The auction battle involved the Paarl Royals and Joburg Super Kings, but it was the Capitals who outlasted their rivals to land one of South Africa’s brightest talents ahead of the 2025–26 season.

Brevis’ value has continued to rise on the back of sustained domestic and international form. In the 2025 SA20 season for MI Cape Town, he scored 291 runs in 12 innings at an average of 48.50 and a strike rate above 180, one of the highest tournament strike rates that year. His international stocks climbed further in August 2025 when he smashed an unbeaten 125 off 56 balls against Australia, setting a new South African T20 International record.
The Capitals’ decision to invest heavily in Brevis reflects his rare profile as a young batter capable of dominating in the middle overs while also providing explosive power in the final phase of an innings. Analysts have noted that his scoring range, ability to clear the ropes on both sides of the wicket, and rapidly improving temperament make him an ideal long-term T20 franchise asset.

Brevis joins a Pretoria squad aiming to push for the SA20 title after several near-miss campaigns. With Aiden Markram also fetching a major fee, bought for R14 million by Durban’s Super Giants, earlier in the auction and several Proteas stars changing teams, the 2025–26 season is shaping up to be the most competitive yet.
