Best bets in top Tanzanian clubs’ midweek affair

The top three clubs in the NBC Premier League bring midweek heat as they aim to pick up three points and close the gap in the title race.

Young Africans S.C. (Yanga), Simba S.C. and Azam F.C. have each played just two matches this season owing to a heavy continental schedule. But the dominance of Yanga and Simba over the league has been almost complete over the last 25 years, with Azam FC the only other side to grab a title during that period (in 2013/14).

Champions Yanga are favourites to maintain their unbeaten start. They’ve yet to concede from their first two fixtures and have a strong head-to-head advantage over Mtibwa Sugar, who have struggled for points in this fixture in recent seasons. A convincing Yanga win is expected, which should see them move up the table.

Tabora United vs Simba SC

Tabora United are winless in their opening three league fixtures and sit near the bottom of the table. Simba, unbeaten in their first two matches, have kept clean sheets in both. Given the gulf in form and quality, the visitors look well-placed to extend their momentum and climb to the summit with a win.

Azam FC vs Singida Black Stars

Azam come into their home fixture eager to defend their perfect home record. Their opponents, Singida Black Stars, sit mid-table but carry an attacking threat, having recently won 1-0 over Mashujaa. Both sides boast dangerous forwards and are likely to find the net in what should be an open contest.
