Top 14 Round 6: Stade Francais chasing the summit

Bayonne enter Round 6 at the top of the Top 14 table, trailed closely by Stade Français. Bordeaux, Toulouse, Toulon, and Section Paloise, all tied on 14 points, make the remainder of the chasing pack. Meanwhile Montauban and Perpignan occupy the relegation zone, with Perpignan still yet to claim a point this season.

In Round 5, South Africans made their mark across the Top 14. Carlu Sadie and Tiaan Jacobs powered Bordeaux Begles’ scrum in a 32–20 win against Lyon, with Rohan Janse van Rensburg solid in midfield and Janse Roux featuring off the bench for Lyon.

Stade Français continued their strong form as Jeremy Ward scored twice in a 28–11 win over Perpignan, while compatriots Joe Jonas, Nemo Roelofse, James Hall, and Tristan Tedder were all in action for the Catalans, who remain winless. Sikhumbuzo Notshe dotted down for Montauban in their 84–31 loss to Clermont, supported by Ru-Hann Greyling and JT Jackson from the bench.

Elsewhere, Bayonne stunned Toulouse 40–26 to stay top, Castres edged Lyon 20–16, Toulon beat Section Paloise 33–17, and Montpellier outclassed La Rochelle 37–13.

Round 6 fixtures carry plenty of intrigue. Bayonne host Section Paloise in a top-of-table clash. Lyon face pro-relegation Perpignan. Montauban host Castres in a battle for mid-table breathing room.

Racing 92 take on Montpellier, Stade Français welcome La Rochelle, Clermont meet Toulon, and Toulouse face off with Bordeaux Begles, a match that often brings high stakes and tension.

For Bayonne, maintaining their position atop the log will require consistency and composure, particularly under pressure from challengers like Bordeaux and Toulouse.

Bordeaux will push to capitalize, eager to overtake their peers by pulling off a result in Toulouse. Meanwhile, Perpignan’s run without points is becoming critical with every slipped fixture deepening their survival challenge.

If Bayonne can hold firm and avoid slipups, they strengthen not just their own claim but force others to fight for positioning. Toulouse and Bordeaux will see their clash as an opportunity to climb close to the top. On the other end, Perpignan and Montauban will fight every inch to escape the drop.

Round 6 may well define the top and bottom halves more sharply and South African stars across multiple teams will play key roles in whose fortunes rise or fall.
