Nigeria vs Morocco – AFCON bets to bank on

Nigeria are all set to take on hosts Morocco in the semifinals of the ongoing AFCON at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Super Eagles have been the standout performers at the continental showpiece so far, winning all the matches they have played in convincing fashion. A remarkable run especially after failing to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Eric Chelle’s charges have proved their might throughout the competition and are keen on winning a fourth AFCON title. His side are the tournament’s top scorers with 14 goals from five matches.

Morocco have had a near perfect record as well, winning four matches out of the five played. The only other result was a 1-1 stalemate against a stubborn Mali in the group stages. That was also the only goal they have conceded thus far.

Newcastle vs Man City EFL Cup semi prediction – value bets

Nigeria and Morocco have met 11 times since 1969 across major competitions, with the latter holding the overall edge with six wins to the Super Eagles’ four and one draw, in a rivalry shaped by World Cup qualifiers and AFCON meetings, including notable Nigerian successes in 1980 and 2000.

However in recent years, Morocco has dominated the last six encounters as the Super Eagles have managed just one win – a 2-0 victory at the 2000 AFCON – and their most recent meeting ending in the heaviest result of the rivalry, a 4-0 defeat for Nigeria at the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Team news

The biggest blow for Nigeria is the suspension of captain Wilfried Ndidi after accumulation of yellow cards.

Cyril Dessers is also absent through injury and Raphael Onyedika is expected to start.

Ademola Lookman, Alex Iwobi and Victor Osimhen have been in top form and will retain their spots in the starting lineup.

For Morocco, Azzedine Ounahi is sidelined with a calf problem sustained in training and Romain Saiss remains unavailable after being injured against Comoros.

The rest of the side is expected to remain unchanged with Brahim Diaz carrying the weight of his nation on his attacking shoulders.

Prediction

The Super Eagles run of form gives them a slight advantage heading into this do or die encounter.

However, Morocco has had the most resolute defense in the tournament but they are not likely to keep out the Nigerian attack.
