Two Serie A heavyweights lock horns in a highly anticipated Italian Super Cup semifinal at the King Saud University Stadium on Thursday night.

Milan are on the hunt for a second straight Supercoppa Italiana title after beating eternal rivals Inter 3-2 in last seasons final. Tammy Abraham was the man of the match after a late winner secured a first Italian Super Cup trophy for Milan since 2016. This will be the first match between these two teams in the competition as they chase a piece of silverware for the season.

Napoli are two-time winners of the trophy in 1990 and most recently in 2014, while Milan are looking to tie the record with a ninth Super Cup title.

Here we have a look at all the key details and offer predictions on the highly anticipated semifinal clash.

Team news

Kevin de Bruyne, Billy Gilmour and Romelu Lukaku remain the notable absentees from the Napoli squad through injury. However, Rasmus Hojlund has been instrumental, scoring their last three winning goals and he will lead the attacking line. Noa Lang came off the bench over the weekend but is expected to start here.

For the visitors, Matteo Gabbia is their latest fitness concern and is expected to be replaced by Koni De Winter in defense. The rest of the team is expected to remain unchanged with former Chelsea pair of Christian Pulisic and Christopher Nkunku leading the attacking line.

Head-to-head and current form

Antonio Conte’s side have the advantage in their recent matches against Milan, winning twice and sharing the spoils in two games as well. However, Milan had the last laugh when these sides last met in Serie A in September, winning 2-0.

Napoli come into the game after suffering back to back defeats against Benfica and Udinese, while their opponents have lost just once in their last five.

Prediction

Historically, this fixture has never been shy of producing goals and both teams possess enough quality to get on the scoresheet. Despite a few notable injuries, both sides have quality attacking players that can produce goals. A cagey affair can be expected here with a draw at the end of regular time, a big possibility.
