CAF Confederation Cup – Round 6 preview

Philip Maeta/Gallo Images

The final round of the CAF Confederation Cup group stage takes place this weekend, with qualification and seeding still at stake across all four groups. With the standings confirmed after five matches, only a handful of scenarios remain unresolved.

Group A

USM Alger lead on 13 points (4W, 1D), one ahead of Olympique de Safi on 12 (4W, 1L). Both sides have secured quarter-final qualification, but Saturday’s meeting will decide top spot. A draw would be enough for USM to finish first, while Safi must win to overtake them.

Djoliba AC host San Pedro FC on Sunday. With three and one points respectively, neither can progress. Pride and ranking points are all that remain.

Group B

Wydad AC top the group with 12 points (4W, 1L) and need only a draw at home to Azam FC to confirm progression. Azam, level on nine points with AS Maniema Union, must win in Casablanca to guarantee a place in the knockouts.

Maniema host Nairobi United, who are yet to collect a point. A Maniema victory would move them to 12 points, but their fate could still depend on the outcome between Wydad and Azam if goal difference becomes decisive.

Group C

CR Belouizdad sit first on 12 points, three clear of AS Otoho. Both have qualified. Otoho can claim top spot with victory in Algeria; a draw secures Belouizdad’s hold on first.

Stellenbosch FC and Singida Black Stars meet with four points each and no route to the quarter-finals.

Group D

This is the tightest section. Kaizer Chiefs lead with 10 points (3W, 1D, 1L), followed by Zamalek SC on eight and Al Masry SC on seven. ZESCO United are eliminated.

Chiefs travel to Zamalek knowing a win secures first place and qualification. If Al Masry defeat ZESCO at home and Chiefs lose in Cairo, goal difference could determine who advances. Every margin now matters.

Round 6 will settle seeding and define the quarter-final line-up, with Group D providing the decisive drama.
