The Investec Champions Cup final returns to Bilbao on Saturday with two sides carrying very different narratives into Europe’s biggest club match.
Bordeaux-Bègles arrive as defending champions and unbeaten in this season’s competition. A win would make them just the sixth side to successfully defend the title and further cement what is rapidly becoming one of club rugby’s strongest projects under Yannick Bru.
Leinster, meanwhile, return to San Mames with unfinished business. The Irish province lifted the trophy in Bilbao in 2018 but have since suffered four final defeats and continue to carry the burden of repeated near-misses.
Both sides have the quality to win it. The question is whether Bordeaux’s attacking power can overcome Leinster’s experience and knockout pedigree.
Bordeaux-Bègles v Leinster
San Mames Stadium, Bilbao
Saturday, kick-off: 15:45 CEST (15:45 SAST)
Team form
Bordeaux arrive with momentum despite a slightly more uneven recent run.
Their last five produced wins over Perpignan (37-32), Bath (38-26) and Leinster (23-21), alongside defeats to Racing 92 (15-45) and Toulouse (38-40). They have won three of five and carry a points difference of -13.
Leinster’s form line is stronger.
The Irish province beat Cardiff (68-14), Munster (31-7), Glasgow (29-25) and Montpellier (29-21), with their only recent defeat coming against the Sharks (26-29). Across those matches they scored 27 tries and built a points differential of +87.
The value
Pick: Leinster +5.5 @.195
Booking code: BW57D00FAA
This feels closer than the market suggests.
Bordeaux’s backline remains terrifying. Matthieu Jalibert and Maxime Lucu control the game beautifully, while Louis Bielle-Biarrey and Damian Penaud can turn half chances into tries from anywhere.
But Leinster arrive with experience in abundance.
Caelan Doris, Jamison Gibson-Park, Garry Ringrose and Dan Sheehan have all played on this stage repeatedly, while the return to Bilbao carries positive memories. Their recent form is also stronger than Bordeaux’s and they have looked more balanced through the knockout stages.
The concern for Leinster remains emotional scar tissue. Four lost finals since 2018 is difficult to ignore.
Bordeaux have the attacking edge. Leinster have the greater depth and finals experience.
Taking the points feels the safer route.

Betting angle
The try markets look attractive here.
Leinster have scored first in four of their last five matches and reached 10 points first in all five. Bordeaux have been slightly slower starters, doing so in only two of their last five.
