Senegal vs Morocco AFCON final prediction – where the value lies

The curtains finally come down on an electrifying Africa Cup of Nations with host nation Morocco and Senegal battling it out in Sunday’s epic final clash.

Morocco are making their first AFCON final appearance since 2004. Meanwhile, Senegal are featuring in their third final in the last four editions of the continental showpiece.

The host nation has a wealth of expectations to carry as they are 90 minutes away from potentially ending Morocco’s 50-year wait for the coveted AFCON title. However, this will not be an easy task against the 2021 champions.

Morocco topped off a great tournament with a shootout victory against Nigeria in the semifinals, after both teams failed to win in the 90. Bono was the hero in the Moroccan goal, saving two spot kicks to book his nations ticket to Sunday’s final.

Bono has been a key figure in their progress in the competition alongside his defense that has only allowed five shots on target in six games.

Senegal on the other hand have scored in every match and had Sadio Mane to thank for their spot in the final. The Al Nassr forward scored the only goal in a 1-0 win against Egypt in the semis to book his nations place in the final.

Morocco have proved to be resolute defensively and now take on an attacking Senegalese side, setting this up to be a potentially explosive final.

We have a look at all key details of the match, weigh both teams and offer our predicted outcome.

What time does the game start?

The match kicks off at 10PM E.A.T

Senegal vs Morocco team news

The Lions of Teranga will be without Kalidou Koulibaly, who is suspended for the final, a repeat of 2019 when he had to watch from the sidelines as well. Mamadou Sarr is set to replace him.

Nicolas Jackson will remain the focal point of the Senegalese attack, supported by Mane and Everton’s Ilman Ndiaye on either flank.

The rest of the side will remain unchanged from the team that started against Egypt.

The hosts are also not expected to make any changes from their semifinal team. Azzedine Ounahi is the only one expected to start after being troubled by a calf injury during the knockout rounds.

Morocco will pray that Achraf Hakimi can provide more than just his one goal contribution so far in the tournament, as well as Youssef En-Nesyri, who scored the winning penalty against Nigeria.

Arsenal target nine-point-cushion: EPL round 22 predictions

Senegal vs Morocco prediction

The hosts defense has proved to be a force to reckon with and that should be enough to keep Senegal out.

However, the Lions of Teranga have continuously shown their ability to break down teams and find a way to score and this is set to remain the case here as well.

It being a final, we can expect a rather cagey encounter but the team who scores first is likely to win the title.

Prediction – Senegal to win or draw
